Do you have questions about lingual braces? If so, our orthodontist, Dr. Ellen Nam, is happy to help you find the answers you need. The more you know about lingual braces, the better. In fact, it can help you ensure it’s the right treatment for you and it can even help you have the top-notch orthodontic treatment you deserve. To help you find the answers you’re looking for, our orthodontist is happy to share the answers to the following commonly asked questions:
Question No. 1: What are lingual braces?
Answer: Lingual braces are just like traditional braces but instead of the brackets being glued to the front surfaces of the teeth, they are glued to the back surfaces of the teeth. There, they are connected by a strong wire.
Question No. 2: How do lingual braces work?
Answer: You will come into our office for regular adjustment appointments. During these visits, our orthodontist will tighten the wire that connects the brackets. This will apply pressure to the brackets and will shift and move the teeth into place.
Question No. 3: How do I clean my lingual braces?
Answer: You need to clean your lingual braces regularly. In fact, you need to clean them more than you would clean traditional braces. This is because food particles and plaque can build up around the appliance. It’s best to brush after each time you eat as well as floss regularly. To make oral hygiene easier, you can use interdental brushes, floss threaders and water flossers.
